A week ago I asked on this forum a few questions about transferring my
Expression Web program from my old Window XP computer to my new Windows 7
computer. I was told that I just had to insert the Upgrade version into the
drive and not to bother about inserting the FrontPage 2003.

Well, my two websites are capable of being edited with Expression but they
don't look right - everything is out of balance on the page. And I can't
publish.

I'm probably not the only one having problems with migration. Is there an
easy fix to this, like buying the new version of Expression and installing
it? It's really a mess now. Would reinstalling the previous FrontPage 2003
help any? I had them both installed on my old computer.

Expression Web on Windows 7 is exactly the same as Expression Web on Windows
XP.
As far as page rendering is concerned, Expression Web 3 is almost identical
to Expression Web 2 and Expression Web 1 - any differences being closer to
what will be seen in a standards compliant browser. Without seeing the page
it is almost impossible to diagnose rendering problems - though the most
common faults are IE6/7 and use of absolute positioning.
Were you using IE6 or IE7 for previewing on Win XP? That could explain the
differences since Windows 7 uses IE8 - a very different browser compared to
its predecessors.

What happens when you try to publish - what error messages?

What is th eurl to your website?

Do you have left over bot use on the site? from what you say it seems not .

I think ron is right and you are now using an newer browser ....we really
need to see your site...it seems like its a matter of the coding not the
programs

EW does not change when you move it from XP to Win7. And it has nothing to
do with FrontPage. You'll have to provide a lot more information to get
help: for example, what do you mean "out of balance on the page": in Design
View or in a Browser Preview? Publish the page and provide a URL for us to
look at.

Internet Explorer 8, which is standard on Windows 7 machines, has a
"compatibility" tool, the button for that is located between the
address windows and the search window, actually between the green
arrow and the red X. It ooks like a torn sheet of paper. Clicking on
that may solve your problem, as IE8's "advanced features" many times
render older sites as a jumbled mess. Nothing is wrong with your code
- it's ust IE8 does a poor job of rendering old sites without this
compatibility tool.

Thank you everyone for trying to solve my problem. I did not make my problem
clear though. I'm going to do that now - maybe.

The problem is not with how my two sites are rendered on IE8; the problem is
how my sites look on the local copy - the copy stored on my computer - which
I want to edit in Expression Web. My two sites are
www.hairloss-reversible.com and www.shapeyourface.com - two noncommercial
sites. They look fine on the Internet.

By "out of balance" I mean the borders of the pages are too tight and the
graphics are out of proportion. But many other things are not the same when I
try to edit the sites with EW. For example, when I go to File and then Recent
Sites I no longer see my two sites listed. All I see is 1
C:\Users\Tommyvin\Documents\My Websites. And when I click Publish from the
file menu I don't see the usual Publish screen that was so easy in the past
(before the "Easy Transfer").

This might have been my mistake that caused chaos: In the instructions for
using the Easy Transfer Cable is this - "You need to install your programs
before running the Easy Transfer program."

I forgot to do this. I ran the Easy Transfer program using the Belkin
Windows Easy Transfer Application Software cable. I then inserted the EW
program disc after this - probably a mistake.

You can tell from my attempt at clarifying this problem that I am only
moderately knowledgeable about computer technology. I can follow instructions
though. Would it be a good idea to delete the EW from the hard drive and
reinstall it after deleting and reinstalling my local copy of my two
websites? I'm really in the dark about this. At least I still have my old
computer where everything looks right. And, by the way, Expression Web up to
now gets my four-star rating for being user friendly.

The best way to get your online sites on your new PC correctly is to
Open each of your online sites in EW
- and publish them to your PC to new folder locations (as separate sites)
Then always use File Open Site (or in EW3 Sites - Open Site) to open you page
- your recent won't have anything on your new PC until you have opened the sites locally at least once

To clarify: IE8 does a better job of rendering sites properly. The
compatibility button is for sites that are not properly coded to standards.
In fairness, they were usually targeted to earlier releases of IE, which were
not up to standards. Look at those same sites in the latest versions of
other standard browsers, and they will look a mess, too, unless the poor
coding was targeted to IE in conditional comments or hacks.
