In FrontPage 2003, it was easy to open my PC web on the left side of my
screen and the serve web on the right side of my screen and do copy/paste
between them. Occasionally this was the past resort when neither a site
publish nor a single file publish seemed to work.

I have just switched from Frontpage to EW4.

I have not been able to achieve this side-by-side technique to use
Copy/Paste with EW.

Perhaps I am missing something simple.

Is it posible to have the local web and the server web both open in a
side-by-side fashion to allow copy/paste to be used?

The security model in EW4 has been improved
considerably, so it is not generally possible to
copy/paste between 2 instances of Expression Web,
the exception being when both websites are opened
using the file-system and are on your PC, or on
mapped drives on your network.

Yes - you can open the PC site and Server site in
seperate, side by side, instances of Expression
Web 4.
No, you cannot copy/paste between them (except
when the "server" is a file-system web on a
mapped drive or on your PC).

You can, however, copy files between PC and
Server using the Publishing pane.
OPen the PC website and click Publishing tab,
open the remote site.
On both sites, browse to and open the folder
(double click) containing the file you wish to
copy.

Drag the file between the panes. Note that the
file will be dropped into whatever folder is open
on the site the file is dropped into.

But even this will fail if either side has the
folder or file marked as "Do not Publish" (which
is the only scenario I have ever found that
prevents normal publishing).
