This seems to have improved the situation, but I've noticed that this
solution is not recommended by MS.
You guys have any thoughts on why this would be a problem?
Performance and the way DNS queries are performed by Exchange when
using external DNS servers are the main reason.
I would try to determine why using your internal AD servers arent
working.
Generally this shouldn't be required.

What are the exact symptoms of your connectivity issues?
If you're having problems using the AD-integrated DNS server(s), that may
point at some larger underlying problem.
