All:

Recently we upgraded to Exchange 2K and have had an ongoing memory leak with
Store.exe. Exchange 2K has the Sept SP3 Rollup and is on a W2K Server SP4
with 2GB of memory. We're getting a few errors in the event log, but the
ones below give the most information are these:

Source: MSExchangeIS
Event ID: 12800

Description: Message processing failed because there is not enought
available memory {8007000E-8200022D}.

Source: Service Control Manager
Event ID: 7031

Decription: The Microsoft Exchange Information Store serveice terminated
unexpectedly. It has done theis 6 time(s). The following corrective action
will be taken in 0 milliseconds: No Action.

Source: Service Control Manager
Event ID: 7011

Decription: Timeout {30000 milliseconds} waiting for a transaction reponse
from the MSExchangeIS Service.

We just set the option to "Restart the Service" on both First and Second
Failures in the Recovery tab in the properties of the Information Store
service. Do you think this will help at all? Does anyone have a fix or
encountered the first error message? Thank you in advance for any help you
can give!

It looks like not only do you have some type of memory issue, the store
process is dying. Do you have Anti-virus running on the server? If so make
sure you are at the very latest builds/sig files.

Do you see perhaps 9582 event IDs in the application log as well? These are
sometimes seen with the 12800's.

Is this E2k server running on Win2k Advanced Server or Standard server? If
advanced Server (since you have 2 gigs of RAM) you should have the /3GB
switch in the boot.ini. Is this the case?

We do have Norton Anti-Virus for Exchange on the server and it is current in
all aspects (Virus definitions and program updates). I didn't see a 9582
event id in the application log. Actually this brings up another issue, we
cannot see the application log.

E2K is running on W2K Server Standard. Will we still need the /3GB switch?

I'll take a look at the two troubleshooting links as well. Thank you for
your help!

The SMSECtrl.exe could be eating the memory. Here is a
