We have a small business server (W2K) running just about everything with a
range of clients all running OfficeXP.
Some clients are running Windows 2000, the rest Windows XP.
Internet connection is via a CISCO router to 2Mb ADSL connection - also used
for VPN access into the office network.
One computer (and it would be the director's) is a laptop running wirelessly
under Windows 2000 and Office XP. It can connect quite quickly to all
network resources and open files on network folders. However, this computer
really struggles to read and send email. Opening Outlook takes a very long
time whilst it synchronises its folders; attempting to open an email
(especially if HTML based) can take up to 20mins whilst data is retrieved
from the server - the status message seems to suggest each component of the
email is a seperate request and each request can take a minute or so.
Sending emails has a similar problem in that each can take many minutes.
If the mailbox is opened on another computer there is no appreciable
performance hit.
As far as I am aware all the latest patches have been applied to the server.
Please, please can anybody give me any ideas where to look for answers?
