Windows 2000 installs the "Default SMTP Virtual Server" when installing IIS.
When Exchange 2000 is installed there is no "Default SMTP Virtual Server"
under the IIS Manager. Instead it is in the Exchange
Admin\Servers\yourServer\Protocols\SMTP\Default SMTP Virtual Server. (Please
explain this is anyone knows why)
Typically when you are using the "Default SMTP Virtual Server" along side
another mail program both are listening to port 25. So there may be some
confusion. So what you have to do is configure your main mail program such
as EXCH5.5 or IMail or what ever to route incoming mail and then reconfigure
the "Default SMTP Virtual Server" to listen on another port like 26 so there
is no confusion.
The Default SMTP Virutal Server controlls CDONTS (from what I understand)
and if you use the configuration above you will only be able to send
outgoing mail with CDONTS, and is what we will be doing through an ASP page.
What I dont understand is when Exchange comes into play how do I accomplish
this with Exchange 2000?
TIA,
Steve
