Disclaimer:
This is a formal Request For Discussion (RFD) for the retiring of the entire
Usenet newsgroup hierarchy microsoft.public.exchange2000.beta.* . This is
not a Call for Votes (CFV); you cannot vote at this time. Procedural details
are below.
Rationale:
Exchange 2000 was released in late 2000. These newsgroups are no longer
necessary for support with Microsoft Exchange.
Charter:
Usenet as a whole does not have a foolproof method for removing newsgroups.
The purpose of this discussion is to determine if the MVPs and Microsoft
Professionals who monitor these newsgroups stop monitoring. If successful,
we will also be removing these newsgroups from the Microsoft newsgroup
servers on a regular basis.
Exchange 2000 support can currently be found in the
microsoft.public.exchange2000.* newsgroups. However, we are looking to phase
out those newsgroups in the same time frame, ending up with the following
set of newsgroups, each prefixed with microsoft.public.exchange:
.admin General Administration of the Exchange Server
.setup Installation, upgrading and deploying Exchange Server and
Service Packs
.clients Exchange, Outlook and OWA connecting to Exchange Server
.connectivity Routing and connectivity to third party systems and the
Internet
.dev Development of Exchange Applications*
Procedures:
This is a request for discussion, not a call for votes. In this phase of the
process, any potential problems with the proposed retirement of newsgroups
should be raised and resolved. The discussion period will continue for 14
days (starting and end dates will be filled in by moderators when they post
this article to the newsgroups mentioned in the part "Distribution"). All
discussion should be posted in response to this thread.
If there is no discussion, no Call for Votes (CFV) will be required and
retirement of this group will continue as planned. If there is discussion,
a CFV will be held in 7 days (Feb 18 2002)
