Exch 2000 trust-connected to 5.5 domains. works?

We have a number of offices, each their own domain with trust relationships
between them. We are wondering if one office upgrades to Exchange 2000,
what are the effects on the 5.5 domains? Will this work? Will there be
replication problems? Even if Win2000 Active Directory is turned off on the
2000 domain, will it be a problem? Are there implications for when the
other offices upgrade?
ARe there any resources anyone is aware of I can check with regards to 2000
domains interacting with 5.5 domains?
