Have previously tried

http://www.promodag.com

Enable message tracking then this imports everything using crystal
reports with a MS SQL backend, works pretty nice too.

Problem is my 14day evaluation is over and cant justify the cost.

Surely there are others available for exchange even possibly free
ones.

Dont need some of the advanced billing options, just the basics:

-How many mails have users sent // recieved both internal and external
-Top 10 senders // recievers
-Breakdown of recipients sent and recieved from

Any URLs // experiences most appreciated

After looking back through the group ive found this URL :

http://msexchange.org/software/software.asp?cat=Reporting

Which gives a good list of reporting software for exchange with
promodag at the top. Appanalyser has a web interface which seems
slightly better I will give that a try also.

The problem is I need to use the tool quite a lot at the moment but
then probably wont use it again, or not a lot hence cant warant the
cost

Did you try MessageStats (http://www.quest.com/messagestats/)?

For performing an excellent reporting for the Exchange 2000 I can also recommend you a third party tool which I have tested and worked great in tracking the in-depth email sent and received both within and outside the organisation size wise, count wise, date wise. Besides this it can also access the users who are daily approaching the mailboxes via OWA and to know more features go to http://www.exchangereports.net/
