Hi. Exchange is brand new to me, so this is probably a
nobrainer. I can easily configure Outlook 2002 to
retrieve my mail from Exchange 2000 while inside my LAN.
But, when I go home, dialup and open Outlook, I get
nowhere. Our LAN is connected to DSL and I can read my
email with the outlook web access but I need it in
Outlook. In layman's terms, what do I need to do exactly
or where can I go for a step-by-step guide. Thanks.

If there is a firewall on your LAN, then you've got to get through it. VPN
is recommended.

If there is no firewall, then you're having name resolution problems

Thanks for the reply. My situation is one site has the w2k
server, DSL , no dial-up modem, and the 2000 Exchange. The
Linksys router has only smtp opened, I think. My other
site only has dial-up on one machine. So I have a little
proxy server running on her so she can retrieve email for
her
LAN (slow but it works). But now I want to add the second
LAN's users to the AD of the first LAN, so all can have
the same email suffix. When I setup Outlook email account
with Exchange in its LAN, it asks for only server name and
a userid. Now what do I put if I am trying to reach it
from the 2nd LAN through the Internet? Thanks again.

You'll need to make users in other locations connect back with a VPN. I
believe that LinkSys has a new router that supports VPN.

In short, your LinkSys is doing exactly what you want it to do, block
external access to your servers.

Outlook uses a lot more than port 25 to get it's job done.
