Hi All,

We're using Exchange/Outlook 2003.

How does a user maintain GAL data using Outlook? In Outlook, I can go
to Tools->Address Book, then select GAL from the pulldown list.
Great, I now see all the Active Directory users. I can even double-
click on an entry and open its properties. BUT - I cannot edit
anything - it's read-only :(

Granted, maybe we don't want everybody to have write permissions to
the GAL from Outlook. But I belong to the AD Administrators group, so
why can't I edit GAL details from Outlook? Do I have to set some
property in AD for the GAL - stating who can maintain it?

I want a simple way for a designated office manager to be able to
maintain the GAL data for users that I added (thru AD).

Thanks!

something like this - go figure...

GALMOD is the older way to do that or you can have a look at

http://www.directory-update.com/Active_Directory_Update_GALMOD_Downloads.aspx

alternatively grant the right AD Permissions and give them ADUC/ESM

So there is no way to allow an office administrator to maintain their
company's own internal staff list (GAL) - using Outlook 2003 ? What a
disappointment :) I would think it would be one of the very chores
that an IT administrator would want to delegate to a non-technical
office administrator.

Did Microsoft fall asleep on this issue?

Thanks for the links, but I really want the office clerk to use
Outlook to maintain user's GAL data. It took a while to teach them
Outlook, so I sure don't want them to have to learn some obscure AD
tool like ADUC :(
