I see that my search files are not listed in exchange System Manager (Index
data file size shows 0)
but when I look at file path files are there physically. I only see 1 event
that may be related to this why
Event ID: 3014 Source: Microsoft Search, Category:Gatherer
An exception occured ID:17 This is intternal error, reproduce the error with
debugger, attached and enable exception then contact PSS. One of the
components loaded in your system is bad. You may be able to avoid the
problem by recreating the catalok

What is the solution, or what happened?

I'd use the mssearch admin tool to reset the index.

Should I expect any error or issue running this tool?
what if it can't fix the issue, but leaves the indexing in a modified state?
(I am just afraid to complicate things further)

After you reset, you have to do a full population and enable the index when
it is current-to-date. Your worst case is the full population fails and the
index remains in its current state. At that point, it would be a call to
pss.

After I run MSSearch tool to RESET catalog on my (Single Exchange 2003)
server, second and third storage group are on "Initilizing" state.
(First group is in IDLE state and ready for Indexing)
Does this tool any indication as to if complete success or fail?
What do I do with these 2 storage group that "initilizing" state since last
night?

Thanks

This tool MSSearch_admin.vbs did not work for me. Just a warning message
before running the tool, then no indication to successfully run or not. Just
the event log shows that MSSearch stop and start info. Do I have to re-boot
server, do I have to wait days, before this thing actually start working?
I mean what is the indication that this tool works, are there any other
tools out there?

I tried manually removing the index based on the information in
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/830182

No luck.

Once you reset the index, it's empty and disabled. You'll need to do a full
population, then enable it for searching.

Index state "Initializing"
Number of documents indexed: 0
Index Size (MB): 0
Last Build time: 12/12007 (This is the time it had stopped indexing, so it
still has old index info that this tool doesn't seem to reset)
Index Name: Still old index name
Index and gather files are still in same location and seem complete (more
then 3Gig total)

When I right click my storage group, I still get "Delete Full-text index"
where I shouldn't have, if this tool worked

When I try to delete the index information manually as per MS articles, and
go back to Exchane System manager to Create a Index, I get different error.
Thanks

When you try to manually remove and recreate you're using KB 830189?

No, beacuse that KB seem for Clustered Environment only
I Used Technet Help

Basically stop the service, remove the keys, remove the files, start the
service. WHen you followed the steps did you ensure that you removed the
files for the old gatherer logs?

Yes I did.
Then I went back to System Manager to recreate the index, I get an error
message
For some reason, event though files and Index keys are removed, SYSTEM
Manager still see somewthing else, in the system
At the moment, in Exchange System Manager shows no INDEX created (because I
removed the Indexk REG keys as well as the phsical index files)
Oddly, Outlook allows me to do a full text search no problem against even
the very recent e-mails.
so I still do have all these events related to Indexing, but doesn't make
sense
that I am able to search in outlook, when exchange system managers shows no
index created.

Anyway, made a case with PSS, they also seem to be puzzled as to why and
how.
Thanks
MC
