I have just set up my first Exchange 2007 server (running under Windows
2008), and the mail seems to be working fine. Unfortunately I am having real
problems with the OWA.
When I try to get to owa on that server, I get a 500 error in the browser,
and events 2268 and 2214.
Oddly, although I have set up a basic index.htm in the root folder of the
default website, if I try going to that, rather than the owa address, in
Internet Explorer, I get the same 500 error, with the same 2268 error saying
ISAPI Filter 'C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange
Server\ClientAccess\owa\auth\owaauth.dll' could not be loaded due to a
configuration problem.
Any help greatly appreciated.

I don't know what 2268 and 2214 are. Perhaps you might want to post the
full event log messages when referring to them so we don't have to go do a
whole bunch of research just to understand the problem.

Thanks for your response. The Exchange is 2007 SP1 of course, incidentally.
Event 2268: "Could not load all ISAPI filters for site 'DEFAULT WEB SITE'.
Therefore site startup aborted."
Event 2214: "The HTTP Filter DLL C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange
Server\ClientAccess\owa\auth\owaauth.dll failed to load. The data is the
error"
The data portion is 0000007E.
The error message in the browser is "Calling LoadLibraryEx on ISAPI filter
"C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange
Server\ClientAccess\owa\auth\owaauth.dll" failed", Error Code 0x8007007e.

After reading a suggested solution, I tried setting enable32bitapponwin64
property on the website applications to True, but then just got error code 7c
instead, and event 2274: "ISAPI Filter 'C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange

Server\ClientAccess\owa\auth\owaauth.dll' could not be loaded due to a

configuration problem. The current configuration only supports loading images
built for a x86 processor architecture. The data field contains the error
number. To learn more about this issue, including how to troubleshooting this
kind of processor architecture mismatch error, see
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=29349."
The data contains 000000C1.

The weblink did not have any useful information.
Best wishes

I should add that
C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\ClientAccess\owa\auth\owaauth.dll
is present and appears to have permissions for the browser user.
The server is 64 bit.
Oddly this server appears to have an (empty) installation of IIS6 as well as
IIS7, although I have not installed it explicitly. I am a total newbie to
IIS7, by the way.

If it is an option you might want to reinstall IIS and Exchange. Otherwise,
I would advise you to place a support call to Microsoft because this looks
messy.

It is an option, this being an initial test of Exchange 2007. The server is
in a domain with a single Exchange 2003 server (which it is intended to
replace in due course). Do you have any particular advice for the reinstall?
Thanks

Remove Exchange and verify that you get a completion message confirming the
removal so that the object is removed from Active Directory. Then I'd
flatten the box and reinstall everything.

Hi IIS'ers

I got this error too.
So, using process monitor I found the system was looking for extrace.dll
which it could not find and placed it in the folder where the system was
looking for it.

Now, the ISAPI filters can load.

Good luck,
Mac
