error uninstalling exchange 2003 "One or more users currently use a mailbox store on this server"

We have a exchange 2003 server that we want to decommission, but
cannot uninstall because when we run the setup we get the following
error

“The component "Microsoft Exchange Messaging and Collaboration
Services" cannot be assigned the action "Remove" because:

-One or more users currently use a mailbox store on this server. These
users must be moved to a mailbox store on a different server or be
mail disabled before uninstalling this server.”

The only 2 mailboxes that still exist are system attendant and SMTP

I have followed http://support.microsoft.com/kb/924170, but there is
no users listed, not even SMTP or system attendant

This server is our only ex 2003, all users and mail functions/
mailboxes have been moved to our new exchange 2007 server

Anybody have any ideas?

Take a look at this article which covers what you need to do,

If still you cannot remove Exchange then you can manually remove it from AD
and the Server if needed.

ok, wheni followed the MS technote, i found nothing, but with the
msexchange.org method, i found the 2 offending users. bith had
exchange attributes, but no mailbox

it worked, and my un install has now been completed
