update global distribution list

I need to update (add/remove users) a public distribution list. This DL is available on MS exchange of my organization. I am the owner of the DL. Besides that I don't have any kind of admin access.
I am able to update the DL through outlook UI by clicking on 'Modify Members' in outlook properties of the DL. My undertanding is that if I can do it manually, I should be able to do it programmatically.
I have been trying through vba but no luck. Do I need any other kindog access. When I try to add the LDAP userpath to the Group I get an error 'Permission denied'. Can someone please help?
