Hello there. My company is beginning a migration from
Lotus Notes 4.6 to Exchange 2003. We have also just
upgraded our NT 4 domain to 2003 and I plan to have this
finished and the domain switched to 2K3 native mode by
the end of the month. My NT4 PDC has already been
upgraded to Windows 2K3 server and I am now running AD.
I have been working from "Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server
and Lotus Domino Coexistence and Migration" whitepaper to
get my Domino server to talk to my new Exchange Server.
I ran into problems when I got to the manual directory
synchronization process. I chose the "create a disabled
windows account" option for the "When replicating a
mailbox whose primary Windows account does not exist in
the domain" setting. When I did an immediate full reload
of the Exchange to Notes directory synchronization and
the Notes to Exchange directory synchronization, I ended
up with a duplicate user account in my AD for every one
of my users. The process made the logon name for these
accounts the same as the original one; it just added a -1
to it.

It appears that the Notes directory and the exchange
directory are not speaking the same language. Does
anyone have any ideas about what I should try to get them
to use the user accounts that already exist? Any help
would be much appreciated.

Thanks

-Chris

Chris,

What I did (and is also mentioned in the said white paper) is created an OU for Notes users. (Users still on Notes-migrating) Then I setup the connector to create contacts. The contacts held the "NOTES to Exchange" addresses and the AD accounts held the "Exchange to Notes" addresses. That way when an email came in destined for Notes, it looked through AD, found the SMTP address corresponds to a contact in the Notes OU, and then sends to the Notes address through the connector. I disabled (or didn't schedule or initiate) an AD to Notes directory sync. Since we had a small org I just manually edited the Notes NAB of Exchange Users corresponding Notes person docs to point to the Exchange foreign domain address. (ie FName LName@Exchange) If you do it this way you don't have duplicate user accounts in AD or the Notes NAB. Shoot me an email if you need more info.

I'm an Exchange and Notes newbie, but we just finished with this migration. So hopefully this info is helpful.
