"Outlook is retrieving data from the Microsoft Exchange Server
<<servername>>. You can cancel the request or minimize this message
to the Windows taskbar until Outlook closes the message
automatically."
At the time when the problem started, I was trying to organize my
messages and clean out my Inbox. At one point, I tried moving several
hundred messages at once from my Inbox to a subfolder of my Inbox and,
of course, it was taking forever, so I click Cancel before it had made
much progress. It was immediately after that that the problem
started. And it seems that it's mainly just happening to me. One of
my other users complained that the same thing was happening for him,
but it went away after a few hours.
I have tried rebooting the server serveral times, I have tried
scanning the server for viruses, and I have installed all Outlook and
Office service packs and patches, but all to no avail.
Please advise. This is becoming a serious detriment to my
productivity.
Thanks,
Give that a try, and see if that improves the response.
It can also occur when network connectivity is running
very slowly, so get the VPN link checked out too.
Cheers

Thanks for the response. However, I think it's something else. I've
had the Exchange server listed in both "hosts" and "lmhosts" all
along, and performance on other areas of the network doesn't seem to
have dwindled at all. Plus, no one else is complaining of having
these problems.
I can't really explain the logic of this, but it seems that it is
somehow tied in with either my attempt to move a large chunk of data
from my Inbox to a subfolder of my Inbox or the fact that I aborted
the move in the middle.
As I recall, I didn't just click cancel--I actually had to do an End
Task on Outlook because the cancellation froze the application.
Perhaps I fragmented my mailbox somehow by doing this. I don't know,
nor do I know how to fix this if that is the issue.
Any other thoughts?

Tried all kinds of things.
Next thing I want to try is to recreate the mailbox on the server.
Have you tried that already?
Greets,
