I am using Exchange 5.5 SP4. We are just about to change
our ISP to BT. Our current mail setup is to send via SMTP
and retrieve via POP3. Because we are moving from the
current ISP who hosts our mail, we will now have to have
a username and password to authenticate send SMTP mail
outbound to the mail host. If we cannot authenticate the
SMTP outbound mail it will just get rejected because it
will be routed in the BT to the mail server and will no
longer be internally routed on the mail server. (Hope
that makes sense.)
My problem is that I cannot find out how to add a
username and password to SMTP traffic outbound from the
exchange server. The settings in the security section
were not for SMTP but I tried using it anyway with
predictable (doesn't work) results.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Simon.

As fas as I am aware E5.5 doesn't support outbound SMTP authentication,
someone please correct me if I am wrong.

Another option is to stick another SMTP server which does support outbound
authentication between your E5.5 server and the internet.

The Windows 2000 SMTP service supports outbound authentication.
