I already have up and running a server running the mailbox server role. The
server is running windows 2008 sp2 and exchange 2007 sp2. The mailbox server
is located in AD siteA, I also have two servers that are running a
combination of HT and CAS roles, the CAS role is setup in a WNLB
configuration. I now want to setup a separate mailbox server that would be
located in AD siteB, and I want the mailbox server located in AD siteB to be
the SCR target from the mailbox server located in AD siteA. My questions are
#1 Because I am setting up another mailbox server that will be located in a
separate AD site, do I now also have to setup a HT and CAS server located in
the same site?
#2 If there is *no* failover from the mailbox server located in AD siteA to
the mailbox server located in AD siteB then what the CAS and HT servers do?
are they providing any services to anything? from my understanding these
roles are needed, but unless a failover occurs, they really don't provide
any services to clients?
#3 If I do have to failover to the mailbox server located in AD siteB then
what roles or services do the CAS and HT servers provide that are located in
AD siteA? can I still continue to use them to provide OWA,EAS and
autodiscovery? and what about email routing to and from the internet?
currently all inbound and outbound emails get routed through the HT servers
located in AD siteA
Many thanks as always for you help
