When getting changes of recuring appointments from a Lotus Notes 7
environment of one of our customers over internet (SMTP no Exchange Lotus
Notes connector), the appointment can't be displayed in OWA 2007 and Outlook
2003/2007. The message contains three attachments:
not supported calendar message.ics
ATT00001.htm
c153016.ics
When trying to open the ics Files, Outlook states the format of the file is
incorrect.

Customer Environment: Notes 7 Server with Notes 7.02 / 6.54 Clients
Our Environment: Exchange 2007 SP1 with OWA, Outlook 2003 / 2007 Clients

Any ideas?

Frank,

We are getting the same thing. Odd - I've never seen this before. Also,
the end user who receives this meeting request is told he cannot accept the
message because he is the meeting organizer(?). I don't know if that will
help anyone troubleshoot this issue, but any help is greatly appreciated.

P.S. We have the same environment(s) as Frank described below.

Upon further investigation, the calendar entry will open in Outlook 2003, but
not Outlook 2007...

Odd - Microsoft, got any response? I can send screenshots of both 2003 and
2007.

Thanks,

From what MS had told us, if the message passes through an Exchange 2003
server anywhere along the way, the ICS messages will be FUBR'd. It has to
pass through only Exchange 2007 and then it will be good. I have not yet
been able to verify this through individual testing, but hope to test it
within the next couple weeks.

Mark,
We don't use Exchange 2003 - this would have come directly from Lotus Notes
to Exchange 2007 SP1.

Odd.

Mark, P.S. I notice that if you open the ics file in notepad then delete the
entry that starts with RDATE;VALUE=PERIOD, then it works in Outlook 2007. I
don't see why it's a problem for Outlook 2007, but not Outlook 2003.

Ah. That does not bode well for our migration to 2k7 since MS guaranteed it
would be resolved in that version. I will continue through our test and post
results.

Hopefully Ms will respond to this post and clarify...

Our engineers are analyzing this problem currently at the request of one of our customers. At first glance it appears to be only on 2007. MS has little motivation to fix this because it only impacts lotus notes. We may be contracted to develop a fix for this. Let me know if you would be interested in the fix if we develop it.

Stay tuned.

We too are getting the same error. Examination of the .ICS files with "ABC
Amber iCalendar Converter" reveals that they do contain valid iCalendar data
so Notes does appear to be creating the .ICS files correctly. It would
appear to be a bug within either Outlook 2007 or Exchange 2007.

THis is very anoying. All "calendar communication" involving recurring
meetings we must handle manually. We are really looking forward to get this
fixed.
