I have been running my SBS 2003 without certificates. It doesn't appear to
functionally be an issue other than when I use OWA and get a message stating
that there is no certificate or the fact that I have to turn off certificate
checking on my smartphone.

My question is, is this a security problem? If so, can I generate a
certificate on the server from SBS or do I have to buy a third party
certificate?

What is the upside of running certificates and what is the downside (such as
increased complexity)?

Thanks in advance,

Brad

The internet wizard can create a certificate for you, smartphone won't
except that certificate, you will need to disable unless you purchase a
certificate on the smartphone trust list.

Thanks, Moishe.

Why is there a difference in certificates?

What type of certificate should I purchase?

Pocket PCs and smartphones were only programmed to trust a handful of
certificates, I know entrust.net is one of them.
