Hi folks,

I recently installed the full blown Exchange client (v 5.0.1457.3) on
Windows 95. I was previously running the Win95 (original) Exchange client
but needed to change clients for some development work I'm doing. I was
using the Compuserve provider, the MSN provider and the Internet Mail
provider, all working fine.

The full Exchange client is causing me fits. When I try to reply to
messages I have received, but which aren't in my personal address book, I
get an error message that says that "the action could not be completed".
About one in five times it doesn't give me this error message and attempts
to send the reply. When it does attempt to send the reply I'm about 50/50
for having it work or having it NDR. Usually the NDR is instant, i.e. it
doesn't even need to try to connect to the provider store.

What gives here? I've even tried creating "one use" addresses through the
address book and this only works occasionally. I'm confused as to why the
stripped down Exchange client worked but the new one won't.

Any input is appreciated.

Thanks,
Chris

Chris,

I could think of specific instances of where having the "full" (I assume
you have the Exchange Server service installed) client might cause
problems. For example, Exchange can interpret internet mail addresses - if
you don't have the Internet Mail Connector installed - and are processing
mail with the Exchange Server service first (Tool/Services/Delivery
tab/Recipient Addresses...) it might not be trying to send via the Internet
mail service. The Exchange sever service might be bouncing these
immediately because it doesn't have a way to send internet mail. Anyway,
check which services are loaded in the profile you're using and in which
order addresses are being processed.

Hope this helps,

Bill Sullivan
