Hi,

Using Outlook 2007, Exchange 2003 R2. Running on Vista and XP, connected to
the same network, no filtering between client and server.

Clients using cached exchange server mode who disconnect from the network
and reconnect later on (either ethernet, or wireless) are generally
confronted with Outlook 2007 telling them they're "Disconnected from
Exchange Server". This situation can last up to a few hours, and it affects
pretty much anyone who switches networks.

- Restarting Outlook generally doesn't do anything.
- Disconnecting and reconnecting the interface -sometimes- fixes this state.
- Repairing the interface -sometimes- fixes this state.
- Rebooting the machine -sometimes- fixes this state.
- Disabling cached mode does not work, and makes Outlook exit after failing
to connect to the Exchange server.

None of the above methods fixes this problem all the time, and it's starting
to frustrate our users.

Is there any other way to force a reliable reconnection to the Exchange
server? Any known bugreports?

Hi Martin, did you sort this out at all - I'm having the exact same
issue. XP Pro, Outlook 2007, Exchange 2003

I have also had this issue. Have you found any fixes? I have had no
luck with posting on MSDN for the same issue. It is a major issue.

Nothing, so far.

It looks like it may be related to some network issues, but it's a bit too
prevalent to be accidental. So far, the only solution I have is to tell
users to use OWA until their machine recovers. A serious pain when people
move around the office all the time.

Hi,
Some problem here, but my just started on 25June07. I use Outlook 2007 since
December 2006 with Win XP, recently update to Vista and it always worked (I
could connect to our Exchange 2003 whenever I could connect to a WiFi network
secured or not. Now, I believe what triggered the problem was a Office 2007
security patch or WinVista security patch (No, Unfortunately My system
restore was off for some unknown reason - I tought it was on, but it was not,
so cannot recover previous settings.
Could someone shout at MS about this annoying problem????

Regards,
João

Still having the problem once in a while.... resetting Exchange
Information Store Service will address temporarily...

I had problems with laptop users using Outlook 2007 getting stuck in a disconnected state, and it was linked to Cached Exchange mode. I know you said that's not it, but I bet it is. The problem is on the Exchange side though, and it takes a while for things to refresh. Try disabling the "Download shared folders" that is enabled by default when you use Cached Exchange mode. I have a post on my blog about it here: http://techierambles.blogspot.com/2008/09/outlook-2007-stuck-disconnected.html. It seems that Exchange has a MAPI session limit of 32, and for some reason Outlook 2007 will exceed that limit pretty easily and have problems connecting to the server. I think the default lockout is 2 hours, so unchecking this setting isn't going to give you an immediate fix. If you want to double-check it, look at your Exchange server event log for event ID 9646 with the user that's locked out. You could also check out KB 842022 at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/842022 for more info. You can change the MAPI limit on the Exchange server if you want, but if it's only a small number of users having problems you may just want to uncheck that one setting. I can't confirm this, but I did find a post at one point saying Microsoft acknowledge this problem and it's supposed to be fixed in an update to be released in December 2008. It's already December, so hopefully it's coming soon. Good luck!

Hi Martin,

It's a long shot - but it could actually be that the Local Security Logs are becoming 'full'.
Clear them via Computer Management -> Event Viewer -> Right-click on the various logs -> Clear All Events.

See my blog for the HOW TO (with screenys)
http://snafder.blogspot.com/2008/07/outlook-disconnected.html

Hope it helps - let me know whether it does or doesn't.

Cheers,
BJ

Hi, BJ - I'm not Martin, nor do I play him on TV ...just wanted to
comment that as you are using egghead cafe you are not seeing the live
messages on the MS news servers, and are responding to a
two-and-a-half-year-old post, the sender of which will likely never
know you tried to help. I suggest you use a newsreader client to
access msnews.microsoft.com directly instead of egghead or techarena
or google groups or anything like that.

When Outlook is used in Cached Exchange Mode, then OST file is created at client's end and entire Exchange mailbox data is stored in OST files at local end. But if the connection is lost then entire data stored locally in OST files becomes inaccessible.

At this point use PCVITA OST Converter to again access all data. The application converts disconnected or orphaned OST file into Outlook PST file. The Exchange mailbox data (emails, contacts, calendars and tasks) can be access from these converted PST files.

For more Details Read to Official Site: http://www.pcvita.com/ost-converter.html

Suppose you are using an on-premises Microsoft Exchange server and see Outlook disconnected in the status notification area near the bottom right corner of your Outlook desktop application. In that case, there is a possibility that the certificate on the server is corrupt. We must first rule out other potential reasons why your Outlook mail client may be showing "Outlook disconnected" (https://www.emailsupport.us/blog/outlook-disconnected-issue/) or "working offline" in the status bar.
