Hi all,

My Exchange Server crashed. I have the original databases (priv1.edb
and priv1.stm)

I rebuilt the Exchange server and need to import restore the original
mailboxes.

I ran eseutil /p to repair the databases and eseutil /mh reports a
clean shutdown.

I created a Recovery Storage group and a mounted the recovery
database but when I try to use exmerge to read in the old databases I
get an error.

Is it possible to recover the mailboxes in this manner? The database
I am trying to restore is the original database. I believe I have the
organization name the same which I understand is a requirement.

What am I doing wrong? Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Dave

Dave,

Several questions for you...

1. When is your most recent backup? What kind of back ups do you do full;
incremental, differential, etc.? Do you have your log files since your last
backup?
2. Why did you run eseutil /p? This WILL delete data and should only be
run as a last resort.
3. Can you describe your "crash" in more detail? What kind of error
messages are you getting, if the server is booting up at all in event
viewer?

If you have your most recent tape backup, and the log files after the most
recent backup, you should be fine.

You may want to call Microsoft Product Support and open a case with them.
They should have you back up and running in no time.

You may want to review the following article for the proper
procedures. You will want to look specifically at the section
detailing with "Manually copying database files to a Recovery Storage
Group".
