SMTP 552 exceeded storage allocation

Occasionally, senders have mail returned to them with the
error: SMTP 552 Requested mail action aborted: exceeded
storage allocation.

We are using Exchange 5.5 SP4. The original message was
sent to two recipients and was not delivered to either.
Neither of them are anywhere their mailbox storage limits.
How can I fix this?

P.S. The site configuration; protocols; IMAP4 already
has "Enable fast message retrieval" unchecked.

How much room is there on the dick containg the imcdata directory?
