We are currently revisting the way our company limits email. Currently
there are no limits. Our information store is 46 gig for 300 users and we
have 10 - 15 customers that have over 1 gig of email. We are trying to
implement some sort of policies but not appear to be control freaks.

My question is does anyone know of any documented information for a
recommended or ideal size for the Information Store and for mailboxes. I
have searched technet but there isn't any relative information.

Also I would appreciate any other ideas of how your company handles this
issue.

Thank You

CEO and Senior Team members get unilimited mail storage.

Everyone else gets a warning at 25MB, but with no restriction.

300 employees here, our current information store is 22GB, and senior team
is about half of that.

we just recently implemented message size limits, so that nothing over 3MB
can go in or out.

This really depends on you, your server capacity, and your backup/disaster
recovery requirements. i.e. How long will it take you to restore 46gig in
case of a disaster - Is this acceptable to your clients? What is the growth
of the company - Do you expect to have a lot more employee's coming on board
in the future. If so, will your server handle the extra mailboxes/load? I
look after some Organisations with no limits, some with 30Mb, and some with
limits of 40Mb on their mailboxes. However, those that have limits can
create more problems for those clients that want to archive everything as
they then move messages to PST files. Apart from taking up room on their
home drives, PST files are EXTREMELY unstable and we spend a lot of time
restoring corrupt PST files.

You really need to look at your situation and try to work out something that
suits both you from an admin perspective, and your clients.

Step.
