Hello,
I have recently upgraded our exchange infrastructure to 2007. We have 1 hub
transport server, 1 mailbox server (Clustered), 2 Client Access servers and 1
Exchange 2003 backend mailbox server (All mail boxes and public folders have
been moved to exchange 2007). I am at the point where I want to remove the
Exchange 2003 backend mailbox server from our system. My problem is when I
traced the mail flow I noticed that out bound mail is still going through our
Exchange 2003 backend mailbox server. I went in to Exchange 2007 message
tracking and traced an out bound message and found that Intra-Organization
SMTP Send Connector was directing the messages from mail-box-server to
Hub-transport-server to Exchange-2003-Backend-server to SMTP-Smart-host and
then out to the internet. I want to stop mail flow through the old exchange
2003 server and direct it from Hub-transport-server to SMTP-Smart-host and
then out to the internet. I have tried shutting down the
Exchange-2003-Backend-server. This just stops mail flow and messages bank in
the Hub-transport queues.
I really want to know how to redirect the mail to skip the
Exchange-2003-Backend-server.
I have set the Default SMTP Routing Connector on Hub-Transport-server to
point at the the SMTP-Smart-Host but mail still continues to route through
Exchange-2003-Backend-server.
Any Help would be great.
Thanks,
James

I would change the SMTP address space on your 2003 SMTP Connector from "*"
to something inane (Ed Crowley particularly likes to use "clownpenis.fart").
Then create a new Send Connector on the 2007 Hub Transport server with an
address space of "*" and have it smarthost mail to wherever you were
smarthosting it to on 2003.
