This will cause the messages to become undeliverable (recipients email
address can not be resolved if it's an internet address) - with subsequent
retries of half, one, two and four hours - should give you enough breathing
space to delete them :-)
I seem to remember stopping the IMS is a less drastic way of doing this but
it takes a few seconds to stop - it depends how quickly you want to hold up
the messages.

Try stopping the IMC service (Control Panel > services > Exchange IM
Service).
That might 'buy' you some time to 'quietly' (ahum !) go through the queued
messages.
Of course if you do this during office hours, you might find a long line of
(very angry) colleagues wating at your office door : why are my bl**ming
mails not being sent !!!
