Does anyone know a way of putting a hold on the message queue so I can
delete selected emails - especially for when the Chief pastes the contents
of his address book into the To: field instead of the Bcc: field and wants
me to stop all the emails from leaving, and they're streaming out too fast
for me to delete

In an emergency, you could pull the cable out of the back of the Exchange
Server that connects it to the outside world (network cable usually).

This will cause the messages to become undeliverable (recipients email
address can not be resolved if it's an internet address) - with subsequent
retries of half, one, two and four hours - should give you enough breathing
space to delete them :-)

I seem to remember stopping the IMS is a less drastic way of doing this but
it takes a few seconds to stop - it depends how quickly you want to hold up
the messages.

But like I said, "In an emergency....." :-)

Ann,

Try stopping the IMC service (Control Panel > services > Exchange IM
Service).

That might 'buy' you some time to 'quietly' (ahum !) go through the queued
messages.

Of course if you do this during office hours, you might find a long line of
(very angry) colleagues wating at your office door : why are my bl**ming
mails not being sent !!!

Good luck !

Guy.

Thanks - I gave both options serious thought at the time but had to weigh
the wrath of the other users against the wrath of the Chief! (I'm still
alive!) :-)

I guess you must work with *very* polite people Guy!
Most of our users use much stronger expletives when their email is delayed!
:-)

Ann,

Unfortunately : NO. I've been in the real (ICT) world for a while and am
acquainted with the term 'verbal abuse', its' effects and (often) unnecessary
use. :=o

Kind regards,

Guy. :=)
