As far as I can tell I have only a single sender who is sometimes not able
to get messages delivered to my Exchange 2003 server. The error she gets is
as follows:

Failed to deliver to 'user...@mydomain.com'
SMTP module(domain [xx.xxx.xxx.xx]) reports:
message text rejected by xx.xxx.xxx.xx:
550 5.7.1 Requested action not taken: message refused

I've researched and can't find much help on the "message text rejected"
error. Is anyone familiar with this message? Thank you.

Do you have content filtering enabled somewhere on a gateway or the

porn, seems like porn,, who knows...

I assume the ip address rejecting the message is yours?

That is the rejection response the MS IMF generates.

Look at your IMF configuration under Global Setting | Message Delivery |
Intelligent Message Filter
Is it configured to reject emails?
What is your gateway threshold? Is it too low maybe?

Consider switching the IMF action from Reject to Archive. You will be able
to see exactly if IMF is actually blocking these emails.

Note:
By default, messages are archived in \Exchsrvr\mailroot\vsi n\UCEArchive
where n is the SMTP virtual server instance number. By default, the
\Exchsrvr directory is created in the <drive letter>:\Program Files parent
directory.

Thank you all for your suggestions. Both set of xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx are the
public IP of the Exchange server. I'll check the IMF settings this morning
and report back.

Thank you all again.

Thank you for the suggestion but it was set to SCL 8 and the action was
"Take no Action". We have a 3rd party vendor doing spam filtering so this
setting should be acceptable. Again the IP in the error was the IP of the
server an not the 3rd party.

Any other suggestions as to why my server would send out the error message
below?

FOLLOW-UP

I don't believe IMF is even enabled on this server. I went to
First Organization -> Servers -> <YOUR SERVER NAME> -> Protocols -> SMTP ->
Default SMTP . -> (Right-click) Properties -> General Tab -> Advanced ->
Edit ->

I found only "Apply Recipient Filter" was the only check box checked.
Without "Apply IMF" checked my IMF settings should be ignored, correct?

If IMF is disabled then it cannot be it.

However the error response you reported smells of anti-spam.
Next I would look at your 3rd party anti-spam/message hygiene filter.

Check what reporting your 3rd party apps have....

SOLUTION -

The Exchange anti-virus solution also had an anti-spam engine activated.
Not 100% sure that was causing the problem but it seems like a likely
solution. Thank you for your help!
