Hi Folks,

Im planning to move the exchange transaction log location because this is an
folder with a lot of gig's and the server is running with not much free disk
space...

i already know how to change this location, but my question to you is if
anybody recently did something like this and what are the experients with it?
Does everything work well after changing the data or did you have some
(serious) problems with exchange?

Im running an SBS 2003 Server with exchange on it..

Thnx in advance for your answer!

Buddy,

Take full backup of your exchang server. This one will delete unwanted
transaction logs.
After that right click on storage group and just change the location, it
will automatically start moving the logs to new location.

Dear Emiel,

I advise you to take online backup not offline backup, doing an online
backup will commit these Transaction Log files to your Exchange Database and
will them vanished. can you please let me know how you are taking backup ?
including the steps you are taking to do backup.

please let me know how you are taking backup ?
are you stopping the exchange servcies before taking backup or not ?
which software you are using to take backup ?
does backup finishes successfully or there is a skipped files ?
what is your backup type ? is it copy files only ? incremintal ?
differential ? Normal ? etc.

please Do not try to delete the Transaction Log files manually otherwise you
will end up with missing emails or crashed Information Store.

please reply to me with your answers of my questions.

regards

MDBDATA contains other files besides log files, biggest being database
files, priv1.stm, priv1.edb, pub1.edb, pub1.stm.

Hi Alaa,

Im taking an backup with veritas backup exec 10.0 for windows servers

I have created an own backup job for the microsoft information store
I never had stopped the exchange service before when the backup is running
The backup finishes succesfully, there are no skipped files
Im using these selections in my backup:
The microsoft Information store -> First Storage group will be backupped
Im using the full backup files - using archive bit (reset archive bit)
methode

On the tab for microsoft exchange the following is selected:
Exchange server backup method: Incremental - Logs (flush committed logs)
Full - backup messages - reset archive bit

These setting are used for the last backup...that was yesterday

I already knew that i could not manually delete the Transaction log files, i
hope you can help me out with this information?
If you need more information then let me know
