I have an Exchange Server 5.5 (SP3) which I want to be able to recieve
internet mail from and distribute it to outlook clients on users desktops.
I have several domains being served by IIS on one physical machine (which is
also the machine that hosts the Exchange server) and I want to be able to
recieve all of the e-mail from all of the domains by the one server.
For example (because I dont think I explained that very well ;)
- NT Server machine has 6 IP addresses and serves 6 web sites (6 different
domains)
- Same NT Server has Exchange 5.5 Installed
- I want to be able to recieve e-mail from all hosted domains to the same
Exchange server
so, da...@domain1.com and da...@domain2.com would both go to the same mailbox
in exchange
Now, I have to tell my ISP what DNS mail records to put in the DNS lookup
for these domains and here lies my problem
Should I point the mail domains to the same IP address? (the main IP for the
server) or should I point them all at the corresponding ip's for the web
site?
For example (again, I like these examples :)
domain1.com is hosted on 100.100.100.1
domain2.com is hosted on 100.100.100.2
domain3.com is hosted on 100.100.100.3
etc.. (and all these DNS's are already set up for the web sites)
Should i set the mail DNS records up as this...
domain1.com mail record on 100.100.100.1
domain2.com mail record on 100.100.100.2
etc... all pointing to the individual site addresses
OR
domain1.com mail record on 100.100.100.1
domain2.com mail record on 100.100.100.1
etc... all pointing to the same IP address
Hope I explained myself properly, oh and its Urgent because I need to get
this working for early next week
Thanks in advance

I would set assign one IP address to one e-mail domain.
For example
domain1.com MX preference = 20, mail exchanger = www.domain1.com
www.domain1.com inetrnet address 100.100.100.1

Generally you should not expect timely answer from NGs.

If you feel that anything in my post needs correction - feel free to do so (in

Exchange listens on all ports for incoming mail. 1 IP address,
multiple IP addresses, it won't matter.

Sorry to be dumb but i dont quite understand which of the solutions I should
use from this answer. I understand that the domain1.com should point to
100.100.100.1 but what about the domain2 and domain3 records...
Should these point to 100.100.100.2 and 100.100.100.3 respectively or should
they both point to 100.100.100.1

I dont 'expect' anything from a newsgroup let alone a quick response, this
was just to try and get the message read by people quickly because as I said
my boss has asked for this urgently and I have nowhere better to ask.
I appreciate any kind of response to messages (and try and give responses
myself when I know the answers, which at the moment is rarely as I am just
learning this stuff myself) this was in no way meant as any sort of demand
in any way.
Thanks again

English is a foreign language for me so this can be a problem, too.

Yes.
This way you have more granular control on your setup.
