Have an Exchange v5.5 Server and can access the network
via VPN---how do I connect the client through the VPN to
Exchange if the VPN allows me to access resources via IP
but not browse network neighborhood(internal)?
eg: can map and print via--\\192.168.x.x\sharename or
printername

\\192.168.x.x\ExchangeSERVERNAME does not work nor does an
entry in the HOSTS file on the remote PC?

XP pro laptop using Outlook 2000
SSH Sentinel 1.3 and NetgearFVS318 firm=E1.4

You might need to add some entries to the hosts file, this will let Outlook
use your server name and have it mapped to the correct IP address.

Try going into your Outlook Client, the MS Exchange Server
Service and where it asks for a name of an exchange
server, type in the ip address of the exchange server.

Notes and tips.
1. Use offline folder access for this and synchronize when
you log on. If you have a huge mailbox and a slow
connection, maybe you are connected fine, but it is taking
days to display the 1gb mailbox over a 56k modem...
2. Remember the network percieves you on the pptp
(assuming) ip address and not any other. You should be
able to tell what your ip address is by clicking the
connection icon in the system tray. Just g.p. Sometimes
more useful to know the IP address (also pptp) that you
are connected TO...
3. Try outlook web access inside the vpn... use http://
[ipofexchange]/exchange or however you've tweaked it.
