Experts,

Running Windows Server 2003 SP1. Exchange SP2 and IIS 6.0. Exchange has
the default SMTP server enabled. Earlier today I could not send any email
out from my server due to "Integrated Windows Authentication" not being
enabled in the properties of the default SMTP server. But now I have a new
problem. Using the cmd-line mailer program Blat.exe, I can only send emails
to email addresses within my Exchange organization (when I specify those
addresses in the batch file which calls Blat). So I turned on debug logging
in Blat which allows me to see the actual SMTP conversation between blat.exe
and my Exchange server. Keep in mind Blat is running on the Exchange server
itself. Basically, if I specify any address outside my Exchange
organization, I can see the server rejecting me with a "550 5.7.1 Unable to
relay for myperson...@mydomain.com" response. I know this is not a
Blat problem, but I am unable to figure out what settings in the properties
of the default SMTP server I need to set so that Blat can send the mail out.

Add any IP addresses you wish (including the one on the Exchange box itself)
in the "allowed to relay" box in the relay restrictions properties of your
default SMTP VS.

The IP address of the Exchange server itself is not there by default so my
question now is would this be considered a security threat?

Not really. I do the same thing, for BLAT and other such things. I'm
presuming your network is pretty well protected.....

Lanwrench I have one more question. I get double messages to my hotmail
email address only when I run this batch file (and I only run the batch file
one time). Have you ever seen that?

Of course it did, Sprin.
As long as we're adding extra r's and all. ;-)

It doesn't have this problem when sending to mailboxes hosted in Outlook.

Ok the problem is happening only with one account in Outlook. It doesn't
happen to my other account in OE nor to my Gmail account in OE. It's an OE
issue with that account. :-) Lanwench you rocks!
