what's the purpose of x400 and x500 SMTP addresses that are created when
a mailbox is created for a user in Exchange 2003?
thanks
If an object contains only an X500 address and does not have an SMTP
address, and you try to send mail to it via SMTP, exchange encapsulates the
address in an SMTP address like this:
IMCEAEX-_O=Organization_OU=Site_CN=ContainerName_CN=som...@microsoft.com
This could be a sign that the RUS is not properly stamping or the that the
SMTP address has been removed from the user

Btw, my Exchange server 2003 is a result of an upgrade from Exchange 5.5. I
put a new Win2k3 box (member of AD), installed Exch2003 + SP2 in the same
Exch5.5 org. Also installed ADC then I moved mailboxes from 5.5 to 2003.
Exch 5.5 is no longer in use.

/o=ExampleAB/ou=Organizationalunit1/cn=Recipients/cn=Username
That's the format used by the 5.5 directory. (because you upgraded from
5.5)
x400 is a transfer protocol.
