I've heard that it's generally not recommended (Microsoft?) to do a full
NT/Exchange Server restore because of the open file issues during backups,
although I know that some people do it. If this is true, what's the best
backup recovery plan for connector/IMS servers that have no mailboxes, but
do have "a lot" of custom IMS configurations (domain routing, routing
restrictions, etc)? Are their files in the exchsrvr director that could be
backed up and restored to a clean server that would avoid hours of re-entry?
TIA

Unless your server is a PDC, and I hope it's not, I would not backup up the
OS. You really need to be concerned about doing full online backups of the
Exchange databases, on a regular basis.

If you intend to have to restore the entire server, you may want to look at
some of the intelligent recovery options which are available with some of
the major backup software venders. My experience in the lab has been you
can kill more time getting a full restore done and verified than rebuilding
the server, and restoring the Exchange data.

Hi!You may want to look at some of the intelligent recovery program. I
can offer to look R-STUDIO.It restores files both on local disks and
on disks
on remote computers over network, even if their partition structures
are damaged and supportes file systems: FAT12, FAT16, FAT32, NTFS,
NTFS5 (created and updated by Win2000).I use this program and I liked
it. Look the site http://www.r-tt.com for more information.
Best regards

Are the configurations for the Internet Mail Connector stored in dir.edb?
For some reason I thought that they were loaded from another file or
possibly the registry.
