What is the best way to set up a proxy for receiving SMTP messages from the
Internet? I want to set up a proxy outside my private network that would
forward SMTP messages to my Exchange Server.

Thank you in advance,

Joe T.

What you are describing is called RELAY server. It accepts message from one
SMTP host and then relays it to another.
Setup procedure varies greatly depending on what software you are planning to
use. It can be Linux box running SENDMAIL or W2K/NT4 box running IIS.

Symantec do an AV product that will allow you to filter hazardous
content - It is called NAV for Email Gateways. I have a copy but have
not had the time to install it/play with it. If you go with it let me
know how it works :-)
