Thanks for your help.

Current config:
2 exchange 2k3 FE server ( owa01, owa02 insalled with exchange 2k3 sp2);
2 exchange 2k3 BE server (1 exchange server (mail01) without any exchange
sp; another one exchange 2k3 server installed with exchange sp2).

Currently, internet email send thourgh the exchange server (mail01).
I have a project to remove owa01 and mail01:
My first question how can I change the settng to let MAIL05 responsible for
sending and receiving inernet email instead of MAIL01?

Thanks & regards,

Patrick

It's not a good idea to have that type of e-mail routing. You should get an
e-mail appliance and configure all Internet inbound and outbound to route
through that. The appliance will do all the scanning for AV, phishing,
spyware, etc. And you also have an extra layer of security in front of your
Exchange server.

That being stated, if you still want to go on with your project, here's what
you'd do in a nutshell:

1.) On your firewall/router, change any NAT settings for your domain's MX
host. Change it to go to mail05 instead of mail01.
2.) On your firewall/router, change any settings that currently allow mail01
to send outbound mail so that mail05 has the same permissions.
3.) In your routing group connector for outbound Internet e-mail, add mail05
and remove mail01. Make sure any special SMTP virtual server settings that
were made on mail01 are also duplicated on mail05.

Those are the high-level steps. You can find more details on MS technet by
reading about SMTP connectors and SMTP virtual servers.

- Look for SMTP Connector(s) for address space *.
- SMTP Connectors designate SMTP Virtual Servers as "Bridgeheads".
Bridgeheads are responsible for sending outbound mail to that addres space.
Add/remove/replace SMTP Virtual Servers as required.

Thanks for your help,

Can I just add the smtp connector for mail05 first and test if everything on
mail05 are ok, then I will remove mail01 connector?

Thanks

Patrick

- You can add additional Bridgeheads to an existing Connector.
- Alternatively, you can create an additional Connector for address space *,
assign it a lower cost, and add the server you want to keep as a Bridgehead.
The lowest cost Connector is preferred. You can keep the other one around
for as long as you want.

Thanks for your help.

Mail01 will be removed later, which option you recommeded?
I may choose second one, add a additinal connector.

That means the steps as below, please clarify me I'm wrong
1. add a new connector for mail05
2. make connector setting as mail01
3. assign the address space * with a lower cost value
4. add mail05 as bridgehead server in the new connector

Can I make the smtp connector as follow?
if user mailbox on mail01 and send out a internet email, the sysetm will use
mail01's smtp connector;
if user mailbox on mail05 and send out a internet email, the system will use
mail05's smtp connector;

That I can test the new connector is working before I move mailbox to mail05
server.

Thanks for your great help

Patrick
