One of my users is getting this error returned to him when he is
sending large email attachments to an external domain. He can send text
emails successfully. Here are some facts about the network.
- Windows 2k3 with Exchange 2003
-McAfee Webshield (SmartHost)
-Firebox X700 Firewall
He is not exceeding outgoing SMTP size limits. The internal and
external domain's inbox's are NOT full.
Any ideas?

If the limit is (say) 5MB and he sends a 4MB mail you will probably
find that he is exceeding the limit because of the expansion that SMTP
has to do with the file in order to send it. Get him to send the same
type of file to (say) your hotmail address and increase the size of
that file, bit by bit. You'll hit the limit before you think you
should.
The only way around this is to increase the limits on the gateway.
Im gonna guess its the Firebox.

"SMTP mail cannot be sent or cannot be received in Exchange Server"
Though with MCCrappy in the mix, anything is possible.
Do the logs on the firewall offer anything of value?
