I moved the databases (priv1.edb, priv1.stm, pub1.edb, pub1.stm) all to a
separate drive, but after looking in the mdbdata directory they came from I
found all these log files named E00000xx.LOG and each one is 5,242,880
bytes.

What are these files used for and can I safely delete or move them?

Thanks,

Alan

HOW you did that?

Those are transaction logs. More info in
http://www.microsoft.com/Exchange/techinfo/BackupRestore.htm
(their purpose is the same for both legacy versions of Exchange and E2K).

NO!!
Perform normal online backup of Exchange databases and they will disappear.

You can move them using PerfOpt.

For Exchange 2000, there's only one way: by hand.

No Perfromance Optimizer exists for E2K.

I did it using the Exchange Manager by going into the stores properties and
chose to move them. It then stopped the appropriate services for me, moved
the files for me, and then restarted the services.

Do you know what I can do with these log files? I do a backup every day and
they still persist.

Thanks,

Alan

That's pretty much what I meant "by hand". It's the equivilant of
using the "Database Path" tab on the server's property page in
Exchange 5.5. Sorry if it sounded like I meant you had to edit the
registry and fiddle with backups.

Do you have more than one database in the storage group? Do you back
up ALL the databases in the storage group? Are you making on-line
backup or are you stopping the services (or dismounting the databases)
and making the backup as a file-level backup?

Chad,

Is this article relevant for Exchange 2k too?
