Hi All,
a few members of staff have pointed out an inconsistency when they send
emails from a shared mailbox. They send via their own Outlook03 clients
(Exchange2003 Server) on behalf of "abc". When they get replies from
customers, they can see in the original message that their email address is
shown: "Joe Bloggs (jbl...@x.com) on behalf of a...@x.com".
The problem is that customers are seeing this and replying directly, instead
of to the shared "abc" mailbox.
In a nutshell, is there a way to hide the staff email addresses, so that
customers only see "sent by jbloggs on behalf of a...@x.com"

Thanks in advance,

Martin

Then use send as.

Thanks for the quick reply!

I notice the security / permissions are all a bit of a mess. Can you clarify
exactly what permissions are needed - it is just "Send As" in AD, or do they
need other permissions, such as to be added to the "Send on behalf of" box in
AD Exchange General too?

Thanks agani

Just Send as in AD; remove the send on behalf. Allow up to 2hrs for
permission to take affect.

allow up to 2 hours or restart the IS for the changes to take effect
immediately. If you want future changes to take effect faster without
restarting the IS, then see:

http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb684892.aspx

The default mailbox cache age limit is 2 hours. You can make it shorter.

I was never able to understand why mailbox access and send on behalf are
configured in the Exchange tabs, while send as can only be given in the
Security one... which is, by the way, hidden by default.

The logic that makes mailbox access and send on behalf Exchange features,
while at the same times making send as a security right on the user object
really escapes me.

Send As is the permission that's needed James mentioned.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/327000.

As for the logic...don't try to understand why Microsoft does what it
does. You'll just end up with a drinking problem. :-)

Where do I find Send As in AD? I'm running SBS 2003 / Exch 2003. Sorry, I
cannot find Send As.

It's an Active Directory permission. You'll find it on the "Security"
tab of the user's property page.
