Dear All,

Can anyone tell me how to anti-spam in exchange 5.5? Even
though I had configured the exchange 5.5 to restrict
routing only to accept those authenticated. The spam
email cause the exchange server outgoing queues full and
network congestted.

thank

Best way I know of is to take a two process approach:
1) install a dedicated anti-spam device (e.g. ISA, SpamAssasin, etc)
2) check out Microsoft's web site on the subject:

Maybe you're relay secure on an IP level and will only relay for
authenticated users - perhaps a username & password is weak or got
compromised, so the spammer is authenticating as one of your users?

Hi Kenny,

To followup on Paul's thinking, turn diagnostic logging for
msexchangeimc\smtp interface to maximum, clear the app log, and restart the
internet mail service. Watch app log for event 2010. If you see the event
take note of the account listed in the event and determine whether anyone
should be using the account to access exchange. If not, disable the account
or change the password and restart the internet mail service again.

Hi All,

Good Morning,

Wish you all MERRY CHRISTMAS & HAPPY HOLIDAYS.

To stsrt with.... I am SPAMMED...

I am the systems administrator of a Venture Capital firm with 45 users.

The following describes my setup:

Exchange 5.5 SP3
Third-party Exchange POP3 Manager (available from www.exchangepop3.com) to fetch mails from my 45 mailboxes at my ISP where my domain xyz.com is hosted.
Windows 2000 Advance Server SP4

I need an effective, tested, ANTI-SPAM solution for my server, which has an automated update engine to update its database & white/black lists. I have 24 X 7 net connectivity.

Any suggestions will be highly appreciative & helpful.

Regards,

Nilesh Roy.

We use Sybari's antivirus/antiSpam system with our Exchange Server. The
antivirus portion is absolutely top notch, works VERY well, and is easy to
support. We have version 1 of their Spam Manager which is labor intensive
(requires constant attention) and I'm not too happy with it. It works well,
but requires considerable maintenance. I've not evaluated version 2 of this
product; they claim its easier to use than version 1.

May I ask why you use the POP3 connector instead of letting your Exchange
Server deal directly with the Internet on SMTP? In my experience, POP3
connectors are much more trouble than they're worth; they fly in the face of
all Internet email standards, while Exchange Server does SMTP and Internet
email very well, indeed!
