Hi!

I'm a newbie here. In fact this is my first post in any newsgroup. I'm a
bit desperate.

I am having problems creating a new mailbox user or adding a mailbox to an
existing user in the child domain. I did not experience this before. I was
able to create the mailbox for both the parent and child domains until last
week. The servers are routinely updated so I cannot determine if an update
could have caused this. All existing mailbox users accross the forest
doesn't have any problems sending and receiving email. Only the ones that I
need to create/enable for the child domain that is experiencing the problem.
Following are the errors I get when I create the mailbox from the "New
Mailbox" command in RC (same error if I do it in EM shell):

---- snip ----
Summary: 1 item(s). 0 succeeded, 1 failed.
Elapsed time: 00:00:42

MailTest
Failed

Error:
The operation could not be performed because object
'dbx.xyz.com/dept/MailTest' could not be found on domain controller
'dc03.dbx.xyz.com'.

Exchange Management Shell command attempted:
Enable-Mailbox -Identity 'dbx.xyz.com/dept/MailTest' -Alias
'MailTest' -Database 'CN=Mailbox Database,CN=First Storage
Group,CN=InformationStore,CN=DBX-XCH02,CN=Servers ..................
---- end snip ----

I don't get this problem when I enable the mailbox for users of xyz.com. The
child domain user can been seen from Exchange because I get to the point
where I can find/select the MailTest user. My recipient scope is set to
forest so I can see everything.

My configuration and settings:

1 root DC for xyz.com (dc02)
1 exchange 2007 server on xyz.com (xch02)
1 exchange 2003 server on xyz.com (xch01)
2 DCs for dbx.xyz.com (dc01 and dc03)
All domains in native windows 2003

* setup /PrepareSchema, /PrepareAD, and /PrepareDomain have been done on
xyz.com without errors
* setup /PrepareDomain has been done on dbx.xyz.com specifically on dc03
without errors
* Exchange 2007 installed perfectly (in fact I have been using it in our
organization for about a month now)

Finally, I have an odd error when I change the recipient scope using the
radio button "View All Recipients in Specified Organinizational Unit" under
'Modify Recipient Scope' in RC (using EMC):

1. If I browse for the root domain say: xyz.com -- it works ok and the scope
is set to the root domain showing all existing mailbox users in the root
domain
2. If I browse for an OU in the root domain say: xyz.com\dept\hr -- it
works ok
3. If I browse for the child domain say: dbx.xyz.com -- it works ok and the
scope is set to the child domain showing all existing mailbox users in that
domain
4. If I browse for an OU in the child domain say: dbx.xyz.com\test\users
(or any other OU in any level) --I get a popup error:

The requested default scope 'dbx.xyz.com\test\users' does
not appear to be in canonical name format

All users from xyz.com have been migrated successfully and are now using
Exchange 2007. Any help would be appreciated as I will eventually be
migrating our dbx.xyz.com users from an old linux mail system to Exchange
2007. As I have mentioned, I was able to migrate some users already in the
child domain and in fact are already using it. The error/problem just
cropped up last week for new mailbox users (either creating a new child
domain user using EMC or simply enabling an existing user in the child
domain).

I apologize for the long post and I tend to repeat myself. I felt I had to
be really clear in my post.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Just an update to my problem:

I installed SP1 and it solved the 'new mailbox user' error. I can now
create/assign mailboxes to all users in the forest. I guess it could be one
of the updates/hotfixes that I installed before. However, the 'canonical'
issue is still present. Just to cut the portion:
