In Outlook, each contact has an "IM Address" field. Where do I enter this
field in Active Directory? I do not see this field in the tabs of the user
object.

Thanks,
Scallica

Outlook contacts are objects in a mailbox or public folder and have nothting
to do with Active Directory contacts. Outlook contacts have this field. I
don't see that field being one of the ones you'll see when looking at an
Active Directory contact in the address book.

Ed,

When a user adds a contact from the Global Address Book to Outlook's
contacts, where is the field mapping defined between AD and Contacts? Is
there a way to add a custom mapping? For example, I want to map a specific
AD field to a Contact field.

Thanks,
Matt

You can use the details templates in Exchange and map it to a custom
attribute in AD and have your helpdesk guys populate it.

James,

After editing the template, how do you add information to an attribute in
AD? Basically, I would like to store IM names in AD and have them appear in
Outlook when a user adds a contact from the GAB.

Thanks.

Use a custom AD attribute. Open ADUC, go to the properties of a user;
Exchange Advanced tab, custom attributes. Add the IM address in any of
those attributes ie. extentionattribute1. Now you have to map the
details template field to extentionattribute1.

I have it set up so that users can update the GAL including this
attribute using a com object from Glen Scales. With this you can
create a webpage and map these fields to a user friendly name and let
users update these fields themselves.

Web GAL Mod Com object - Allow a staff member to modify phone numbers
of all people in their department/office.
