Hey Everyone,

I have run into a problem. The short end of it, is that i understand when
using an extange server, the cleints (user's) contacts, email and calander
gets stored into a .ost file not the traditional .pst file.

So my question is how do i disable MS Outlook from connecting to the extange
server. I would rather just setup each cleint's email manually (only 5 users
).

thanks

If you want to use PST files for users mail storage why use Exchange Server
at all? I would not recommend it, reasons are plenty.

The OST is an offline representation of their MAPI mailbox on the Exchange
Server. The OST is setup when you select 'cached exchanged mode' during MAPI
profile setup.

Do you understand how Exchange and MAPI connectivity work? It is not a good
idea to remove the mail from Exchange Server and put into a pst on a users
computer.

Hey Guys,

Good Info, and John you are right, why use the exchange server. I would
rather not use it, so how do i disable / uninstall it from the 2003 sbe?
Do i need to uninstall Outlook 2003 from the server?
I would much rather manually configure their email (they already have an
offsite mail host)

thanks

If they have an offsite mailhost, simply export their mail to PST (this can
be done through Outlook). Then remove their profiles and configure Outlook
or your preferred client to access the mailboxes at your offsite mailhost.
Once they are setup, import your PST back in.

Thanks for the info,

I understand how to backup the data into a .pst file, but where do i delete
the profile? When i log onto the domain, it automatically creates the extange
server in Outlook.

what is the procedure?

thanks

You can delete Exchange Outlook Profile from the Mail Icon in Control Panel
on the Computer or Account Settings in Outlook.
