When the app shuts down I get the generic: "Exchange System Manager has
encountered a problem and needs to close."

The error message from the Application Log follows:

Sounds similar to my problem. See thread: "Help doesn't work" under "Exchange
Administration".

Found this reference suggesting uninstall of IE 7 would solve the problem:

Andy David {MVP} at the last link indicated Jan 8th that a hotfix would be
available soon but I couldn't find one available.
