Hi,
When folks send email to a user at this business they get the following
message

There was a SMTP communication problem with the recipient's email server.
Please contact your system administrator.
<mail.xx.org #5.5.0 smtp;550 No such domain at this location
(x...@eastersealsma.org)>

thanks

I just looked at dnsreport.com, and see a valid MX record, and it was able
to connect to your email server...is everyone getting this? what's a valid
address there to test?

you may send email to br...@cowc.org

but that's not the eastersealsma.org domain...? which email domain is in
question? dnsreport.com reports being unable to connect to the mail server
for cowc.org - here's the error:

ERROR: I could not complete a connection to any of your mailservers!

mx.cowc.org: Timed out [Last data sent: RCPT TO: ]

If this is a timeout problem, note that the DNSreport only waits about 40
seconds for responses, so your mail *may* work fine in this case but you
will need to use testing tools specifically designed for such situations to
be certain.

So far two users when they sent email to this domain have received the NDR,
but when you try to send the NDR again it works.

the connectivity issue might be on your side...

Maybe there is a miss config on the mx which one did you use

I tried it (telnet 69.95.215.210 25).

Here's what I got:

220 ***********************************************************
helo mydomain.com

ehlo mydomain.com

Your SMTP doesn't recognize helo or ehlo.

What is this device with this IP address? a server? what's on it? is it
your Exchange server, or a smart host, or what? I would say there's some
kind of connectivity issue on it...

that's our mx address and assigned internally to the spam blocker. So the
mail goes through it. We have a server that has exchange installed. there is
no smart host.

Are you sure that person telnet to mx.cowc.org instead of cowc.org?

If you telnet to mx.cowc.org or the IP that's assign to it, you'll get the
same result. But if you telnet to cowc.org on (also on port 25), you'll get
a good response.

Something behind that IP (69.95.215.210) isn't configured properly to handle
mail traffic.

it is a barracuda device, however we do not filter outbound mail only
incoming. And incoming mail comes fine even from the domain
(eastersealsma.org) the one in question.

but when dnsreport tries to connect to your mail server, it fails...and when
I try to, via telnet, it fails...something is clearly not as it should be...
