When Ianyone in my company attempts to email to a certain user or users at
one domain in practicualr we get back a user does not exist to you error
message. What could be causing this and can I resolve this. I've verified
that the address is valid. They are able to email us but we cannot email
them.

What is the exact text of the NDR?

Can you e-mail this same address from a non-Exchange account (Gmail, Yahoo,

the exact error message is:

Your message did not reach some or all of the intended recipients.

Subject:

The following recipient(s) could not be reached:

us...@domain.com on 10/10/2006 4:22 PM
The e-mail system was unable to deliver the message, but did not
report a specific reason. Check the address and try again. If it still
fails, contact your system administrator.
< email...@doamin.com #5.0.0 smtp; 550 User does not exist to
you>

I've changed the user name and the name of the server for security reasons.
Basically our mail setup is our exchange server forwards all mail to an
antispam/antivirus server which sends the mail out.

I have never seen that exact message. Have you contacted them to ask them
what sort of filtering or blocking they're using? Can you send mail to
*anyone* on that domain?

What about trying sending to the exact address via Gmail?

What happens if you try to send mail to this domain directly (set up an SMTP
connector that uses domain.com in the address space, and sends out directly
after resolving recipient addresses via DNS)?

Hi,

Thank you for posting here.

From your post, it seems users in you domain are not able to deliver email
to a specific receiver? If I'm off base, please do not hesitate to let me
know.

Does this issue only occur on specific recipient?

Does this issue only occur on specific domain?

If you turn off forwarding email to third-party antivirus server to relay
outbound message and send it directly, what is the result?

As Lanwench mentioned, did you try using external email accounts to send
email? What's the result?

You can try a manual SMTP connection (telnet port 25) from your Exchange
server to the destination giving you the error. If any errors prompted, you
will get a clear image of the problem.

Detailed steps are documented in the following article:

153119 XFOR: Telnet to Port 25 to Test SMTP Communication
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=153119

Configure the SMTP connector to deliver message directly to the remote mail
server without DNS. To do so, see the following article:

285863 How to Bypass DNS Name Resolution to Test SMTP Mail Flow to Remote

Hope this helps, and have a nice day!

I've manualy initiated an SMTP session via telnet to their mail server a
after I type rcpt to: use...@doamin.org
I get
550 User does not exist to you

I've never seen this before. My inital response is that the user does not
exist.

I attempted just to see what happens changing the name I type when I do the
EHLO/Helo command to mail.verizon.net instead I run through the mail from and
rcpt to commands and get oks ithout the 550 user does not exist to you.

The domain of the server that issues the ehlo/helo command is different from
the the domain of our email addresses.

My thought is that our domain is being blocked for some reason or cna this
be caused by a DNS problem possibly at our ISP which we use for DNS
resolution or would this be on the receivers DNS servers

Hi,

Thank you for posting back.

Currently it's also failed during telnet session, I suggest we should
involve the admin of destination domain to confirm why they block your
email.

Also you can try the following steps to bypass DNS. More info, please refer
to following article:

I already have an SMTP connector setup called Default SMTP connector which I
setup to prevent anyone in a certian group from sending external email. Can
I setup an additional SMTP connector and if I do this how does it know which
one to route through.

Hi,

Thanks for you kindly update.

Yes, we can create additional SMTP connector for specific domain.

As I emphasized we should involve the admin of the destination domain to
confirm why you can not send to the specific recipients.

For further analysis, please make a screen shot of telnet session to this
specific recipients.

Also please reproduce this issue and collect the SMTP log.

1. Start Exchange System Manager.
2. Expand "Servers\<Your_ Server_Name>\Protocols\SMTP".
3. Right-click both "SMTP Virtual Server" once a time, and then click
"Properties".
4. Make sure "Enable Logging" is checked, and use "W3C Extended Log File
Format".
5. Click Properties. On General tab, you can find the path for the logfile.
6. On Advanced tab, check all check boxes.
7. Click "Apply", and then click "OK" to close "Logging Properties".
8. Click "Apply", and then click "OK" to save your settings and close "SMTP
Virtual Server Properties".

Then send a mail to reproduce the issue, then go to the folder you
configured and then send the log files to me: v-ch...@microsoft.com.
Please let me know the account you used for this test.

If you need additional assistances; please feel free to let me know. I look
forward to hearing from you.

Have a nice day!

If I already have a SMTP connector called Default SMTP where I specify to
forward all email to a smart host and have the antispam server specified
there and that server will eventualy send the email out after scanning it.
In the delivery restrictions I have accept messages from everyone and reject
messages from a group I have set up called nointernetmail where messages from
theses users are rejected going outbound. If I setup this addition smtp
connector how will it know which connector to use

Hi,

Thank you for posting back.

1. Create an additional SMTP connector to deliver a specific domain
2. Set the cost to a small value.
3. On the default SMTP connector.
5. Set the cost to a higher value.

Thanks and have a nice day!
