We're running the latest version of Legato Networker 7.2.1 on our backup
server (a unix box) We have a test exchange 2003 server and a production
exchange server (which is going live at the end of this month) We can't
back up the private mailbox store, we can do a full back up of the
information store and backup the public folders but not individual mail
boxes. When we try to access the private store from teh networker client we
get the following error on screen

Could not open EMS store for the exchange server. the event viewer
(application log) may have additional details.
Error status: 0x8004011d

and the following logged in the event log

Event Type: Warning
Event Source: Networker
Event Category: NWM Exchange
Event ID: 1
Date: 13/02/2006
Time: 18:07:36
User: N/A
Computer: BURGH
Description:
mapi(1076): OpenMsgStore() = 0x8004011d: The attempt to log on to the
Microsoft Exchange Server computer has failed. (Microsoft Exchange Server
Information Store)

Event Type: Warning
Event Source: Networker
Event Category: NWM Exchange

as far as we can tell all the permssions are correct. The errors occur on
BOTH the producation server and the test server (the test server is in a
seperate test domain)

Brick level backups normally require additional functinality, i.e. you have
to pay more. Do you have the right options? Also, brick level (individual
mailboxes) are not a good idea and not really necessary with the RSG.

Recovery Storage Group. Makes life a whole lot easier in a recovery
situation. Also, bump up your deleted items and mailbox retention period
(Storage permitting of course) and you'll have your bases covered.

Brick level backups take forever in Exchange and most people simply don't
have the backup window. If you have to use them be very selective. I'd
suggest you contact EMC support for your current issue.
