Hi! All,

I have a situation here. I have setup a exchange server 2007 for testing.
I am able to send emails internally - i.e between MS outlook on 2 other win
XP machines. Even the OWA is working fine for me internally.

Now I wanted to test sending an email to my yahoo ID, firstly is this
possible??? I dont have an external IP nor is my dummy domain "ven.com"
registered on the Internet.

When I try to send email - all the mails just sit on the message queue with
the following error --- 451 4.4.0 Primary Target IP Address responded with
: "421 4.2.1. Unable to connect. "Attempted to failover to alternate host
but that did not succeed. Either there are no alternative hosts or delivery
failed to all laternative hosts".

I have configured an SMTP SendConnector and the message queue shows the
"Delivery Type" as DnsConnectorDelivery

Someone please give me step-by-step and places where I have to configure for
sending email to external ID. I am guessing its something to do with the DNS
but not sure :(.

Also: I believe to receive an email from external world - my domain has to
be registered and an MX record has to be there on my ISP DNS server.

Appreciate your help.
Thank you
Regards
Ven

So the server you connect to (presumably its one of the ones for the
domain you're sending mail to) says to try later. But what makes you
think that they'll accept mail from you if you have no published DNS
information for the sending domain? Doesn't that sound like the
behavior exhibited by spammers and zombie machines to you?

Hi! Rich,
Can you please give me a detailed explanation of what u said below?
You mean to say - I cannot send emails outside as my domain is not
registered?
Sorry for my ignorance.

Thank you

Sure, you can send them . . . but nobody's under any obligation to
accept them. Why would they? After all, you could never sent a reply
to one if they did.

hmmmmm, I understand, now I get the picture.
So, the receiving domain will check thru a list of valid domains before
accepting the email. If its not registered it will just ignore the email.

Thank you for your help, apreciate it.

I suppose you could put it that way. I'd just check DNS.

Not always. Some will accept it. Some will deliver it. Some will
quarantine it. Some will silently discard it.
