Windows 2000 sp3 w/security fixes, Exchange 2000 w/sp3. When the
information store is mounted, the SMTP virtual server sends thousands
of email messages from postmaster@ourdomain. It is not an open relay.
the mimail virus is not present. Symantec Corporate v8.0 is
negative. I am running an eval version of Symantec Mail Security on
the information store. It looks like it could 3 days to check all 18
mailboxes. Am I barking up the wrong tree? Any thoughts would be
appreciated.

I would focus on the AV software first.
If you disable it, does it still happen?
( I trust you are not flat-file scanning the exch dirs or the M:
drive).

Thank you for your response, Symantec Mail Security 4.0 for Microsoft
Exchange actually found W32.Klez.H@mm from months ago. I assume the
upgrade from Veritas 8.6 to 9.0 last week attributed to the activation
of the virus. Must 'touch' the email diferently in the new version
when backing up.
